Amazon heads east of Dallas for this week’s real estate deal

And this week’s Amazon location is: Forney.

The Seattle-based digital retailer has been on a building binge in North Texas, snapping up warehouse space all across Dallas-Fort Worth.

Now Amazon is moving into a 200,000-square-foot industrial project under construction near U.S. Highway 80 in Forney.

“Under the development of Seefried Properties, the distribution center will be located in the Gateway Development,” the city of Forney said in a statement. “The state-of-the-art facility is expected to be completed by late 2020.

“The city is excited to add Amazon to our growing portfolio of businesses in the commercial sector.”

Amazon’s new shipping center is being built in Dallas-based Petro-Hunt’s 2,000-acre Gateway mixed-use development, which also includes homes and apartments.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. also has a 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center in the business park on U.S. at Gateway Boulevard.

Since the first of the year, Amazon has been on a streak with multiple new distribution centers in the works in North Texas. Amazon will create 1,000 jobs with a huge new distribution center in Irving near the south end of DFW International Airport. And it’s leasing another 465,450 square feet of space in the Interstate Crossing building at 1511 NE Loop 820 in North Fort Worth.

Late last year, Amazon rented the 419,626-square-foot Eastpoint Distribution Center at 8901 Forney Road south of U.S. Highway 80 in Far East Dallas.

Amazon is by far the largest industrial building tenant in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with more than 6 million square feet of facilities.

Amazon said it has 16 fulfillment and sortation centers in Texas in Coppell, Dallas, Fort Worth, Grapevine, Houston, Irving, Katy, San Antonio, San Marcos and Schertz.
